At the Approach of Death

O God, we know that all things work together for good to those that love thee; we know that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you are always with us, and that there is nothing to fear but the loss of thee; we know that nothing can separate us from those we love, and that in your safe keeping they are free from danger and harm.
Knowing these things, O God, may we go quietly forward from day to day, not looking too far ahead, taking each step with the confidence what we are asked to do or bear, for that you will give us the strength we need.

O God, who the arms of death does gather all your children unto yourself, let us not linger when evening comes or for fear of darkness, fail to trust your love and care. As in the day and in the night you are ever by our side, so in life and in death you shall keep us safe as in our Father’s house.
